Application/File Server

Though not necessary for Internet and email access, most schools have an application/file server or two. This is used to house student and staff folders for work that can be accessed from any connected computer. Also software such as word processing can be served off the server instead of having to be installed and upgraded at each machine. Servers can also handle print jobs, manage security, lock down desktop configurations, distribute IP addresses, and more.
