After School Education & Safety Program Support

The California Department of Education's After School Education and Safety (ASES) Program funds the establishment of local after school education and enrichment programs for K-9 students. These programs align, but do not duplicate, the school day and consist of academic, literacy and enrichment components. Specific activities reflect local needs and include homework assistance, tutoring, recreation, visual and performing arts, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), nutrition and physical activity promotion and service learning. The 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) Program is a state-administered, federally funded program that funds the establishment or expansion of before- and after-school programs for K-12 students. CCLC programs focus on improved academic achievement, enrichment services that reinforce and compliment the academic program and family literary services.

Role of CCCOE:

Through a contract with the Region 4 After school Programs Office, CCCOE conducts annual visits to approximately 15% of the 21st Century CLC and ASES funded sites in the county. The site visits allow the opportunity to stay abreast of current successes, challenges and needs and to support efforts and program goals. Priority for visits is given to sites as determined by the California Department of Education and the Region 4 After School Programs Office.
